OpenBet in depth

Editorial research based on the vendor's public materials, regulator registers and trade press. Researched . Sources are listed at the end of this section.

OpenBet is a London-headquartered B2B supplier of sportsbook technology, trading services and player-protection tools. It is not a betting site: searches for OpenBet casino, OpenBet slots or best OpenBet betting sites refer to operators that run on its technology, such as Sky Bet, FanDuel, Danske Spil, Veikkaus, BCLC and Loto-Quebec, or that use its compliance tools, such as Fanatics Sportsbook. Founded in 1996 as Orbis Technology, the company has been owned by NYX Gaming, Scientific Games (SG Digital), Endeavor and, since a management buyout completed on 24 March 2025, by OB Global Holdings LLC, a vehicle backed by Ari Emanuel with participation from CEO Jordan Levin and other executives.

The product set is sportsbook-centric: the OpenBet platform and account system, a trading system with managed trading services anchored by Don Best, BetBuilder and player-props content, the Protect suite (OpenBet Locator geolocation plus Neccton responsible-gaming and AML analytics), lottery sportsbook solutions and the LEAP virtual sports product. It serves 200+ operators and 20+ World Lottery Association members, holds a UK Gambling Commission licence and sells on enterprise, multi-year contracts that are quoted per project. During the 2026 FIFA World Cup its platform processed 175 million bets and USD 3bn in stakes.

Our verdict

Choose OpenBet if you are a tier-1 operator, state lottery or large regulated US or Canadian operator that needs a proven high-volume sportsbook with managed trading and US compliance tooling, and you have the budget and 6 to 12 months for an enterprise deployment. Look elsewhere if you are a start-up that needs a casino-led white label, a published price list or a launch in weeks; OpenBet does not sell to that segment and does not run a casino game catalogue of its own.

Products and modules

OpenBet packages its sportsbook offer as five product pillars (Engage, Bet, Trade, Player and Platform) plus services. The names that appear in contracts and press releases:

  • OpenBet Platform and account: the core betting engine, wallet and account system used for digital and retail channels; Veikkaus runs it across its online site and its retail terminal network, Danske Spil as an omnichannel platform.
  • Trading System and Managed Trading Services (MTS): 24/7 trading and risk management, with a Self-Trade option for football (Danske Spil, 2024). US pricing is powered by Don Best, acquired by Scientific Games in November 2018 and part of OpenBet since. 2026 integrations added ALT Sports Data official Formula 1 odds (February) and BETER esports and table-tennis content (September).
  • BetBuilder and Player Props: same-game parlay and player-stat markets; 23 million player-prop bets and 831,000 BetBuilder bets in the 2026 World Cup final were processed on the platform.
  • Protect suite: OpenBet Locator (geolocation and fraud checks, live in 23 US states and 200 million checks during the World Cup) and Neccton (machine-learning responsible-gaming and AML monitoring, acquired June 2023, deployed in 30+ countries). Fanatics Sportsbook adopted the full suite in December 2025; Veikkaus extended Neccton across digital and retail in June 2026.
  • Lottery sportsbook: a dedicated line for WLA members; the OmniLogic acquisition announced September 2026 adds an omnichannel lottery sportsbook platform used by EMEA lotteries for a decade.
  • LEAP virtual sports and Insights: a virtual sports content feed and a benchmarking data service.

Casino: OpenBet does not publish a slots or live-casino catalogue. Operators that run casino alongside an OpenBet sportsbook integrate third-party content through the OpenBet account layer or a separate aggregator; the legacy NYX OGS casino aggregator stayed with Scientific Games (now Light and Wonder) when OpenBet was sold in 2022.

Pricing and commercial model

OpenBet does not publish pricing and no reputable outlet has reported its rate card. Public contracts show the model: multi-year enterprise agreements (Veikkaus signed a four-year term in September 2023; Danske Spil renewed for a third term in June 2024 after 11 years) combining a platform fee, revenue share on handle or GGR, and separately priced services such as Managed Trading, Locator and Neccton. Protect products are sold standalone to operators on other platforms (Fanatics runs its own sportsbook stack). Our catalogue estimate of USD 250,000 to 1,000,000 set-up reflects the enterprise segment, not a vendor quote; expect integration, certification and retail hardware to be scoped and priced per project, with a typical scope-to-launch of around four months claimed by the vendor for digital deployments.

Licences, certifications and markets

OpenBet publishes an accreditation page listing its UK Gambling Commission remote operating licence (000-003213-R-104200-007) and an Alderney Gambling Control Commission licence, plus membership of the Remote Gambling Association. In the US it holds supplier licences or registrations in the states where its customers operate; Locator is live in 23 states as of December 2025 and the company says it supplies 22+ states for compliance purposes. Public customers place it in the UK, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Canada (BCLC, Loto-Quebec), Australia, Brazil (BandBet) and the US. A consolidated list of every B2B licence is not published; ask for the register extract for your jurisdiction.

Technology and integration

OpenBet is delivered as an enterprise platform rather than a white label: operators build or commission their own front ends against the OpenBet APIs, and the vendor integrates with the operator's existing PAM where one exists (Fanatics took only Protect; Veikkaus took the full sportsbook plus trading). The Veikkaus deployment is cloud-based and spans web, app and retail terminals from one system; the vendor cites 100% uptime through major events and 100,000+ peak bets per minute. During the 2026 World Cup the platform handled 5 million pre-match bets on a single quarter-final and 4.65 million on England versus Argentina.

Not publicly documented and worth asking for: the hosting model per region (vendor-hosted cloud versus operator data centre, which matters for US state data-residency rules), wallet integration patterns for third-party casino content, the API documentation for front-end builds, and the roadmap for the legacy platform versus the newer cloud stack. OpenBet has stated that it supports retail, web, mobile and call-centre channels from the same account.

Clients and track record

Operators publicly associated with OpenBet technology:

  • Sky Bet, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power (UK): long-standing OpenBet platform users; the vendor has cited handling 65% of UK digital sports bets (2020 data).
  • FanDuel and DraftKings (US): named on the vendor's customer roster; the scope of each relationship is not detailed publicly.
  • Fanatics Sportsbook (US): full Protect suite (Locator and Neccton) across 23 states, December 2025.
  • Veikkaus (Finland): four-year sportsbook and managed-trading contract from September 2023, live May 2025 ahead of the January 2027 market opening; Neccton added June 2026.
  • Danske Spil (Denmark): customer since 2013; third contract term signed June 2024 with MTS.
  • BCLC and Loto-Quebec (Canada), BandBet (Brazil), 888 and Sports Illustrated Sportsbook retail (Michigan): named in company materials.
  • Lotteries: 20+ WLA members at the time of the 2025 buyout; OmniLogic adds further EMEA lottery clients once the deal closes.

The vendor states 200+ customers globally and cites Sportsbook Platform Supplier at the SBC Awards Europe 2025 among recent awards. Headcount after the buyout is not publicly disclosed; the last figure on record is over 750 staff.

How it compares

Versus Kambi. Kambi is the closest like-for-like competitor: a listed, pure B2B sportsbook supplier (EUR 162m revenue in 2025) selling Turnkey Sportsbook, Odds Feed+, Managed Trading, Bet Builder and a modular Sportsbook Platform to operators such as Kindred, LeoVegas, Rush Street Interactive, Svenska Spel, ATG and Ontario Lottery and Gaming. Kambi publishes financials and has a reputation for faster onboarding of mid-sized operators; OpenBet is stronger with lotteries, UK tier-1 incumbents and retail-heavy estates, and adds the Protect compliance layer that Kambi does not offer.

Versus EveryMatrix (OddsMatrix). EveryMatrix sells sportsbook as one module of a full casino-plus-sports stack (GamMatrix, CasinoEngine, OddsMatrix) with an in-house casino aggregator and published quarterly results. If you need casino and sportsbook from one vendor with modular pricing, EveryMatrix fits better; if sportsbook is the business and you need lottery or US-state-grade scale, OpenBet is the more proven option.

Versus Altenar. Altenar targets small and mid-sized operators with an MGA, UKGC, AGCO and ONJN licensed sportsbook that plugs into third-party PAMs at lower entry cost; it is not a candidate for a lottery or a top-five US operator, which is OpenBet territory.

OpenBet FAQ

Answers are generated from the profile data above and updated whenever the profile is re-verified.

How much does OpenBet cost?

OpenBet does not publish setup or revenue-share pricing. Expect a quote based on your target markets, expected volumes and the modules you need; most platforms in this directory combine a one-off setup fee with a revenue share on gross gaming revenue.

Is OpenBet a white label or a turnkey platform?

OpenBet offers both models: a white label launch under the provider's licence and a turnkey deployment on your own licence. White label is faster and cheaper to start; turnkey gives you ownership of the licence, player data and commercial relationships.

How long does it take to launch a casino with OpenBet?

OpenBet has not published a launch timeline. White label launches in this directory typically take 2–4 weeks and turnkey deployments 8–12 weeks, assuming licensing and payments are already arranged.

Does OpenBet support cryptocurrency payments?

OpenBet does not list native cryptocurrency support in its profile. Crypto can sometimes be added through a third-party payment provider; ask the vendor directly and see our crypto casino software list for alternatives.

Does OpenBet include a sportsbook?

OpenBet offers a sportsbook alongside casino, so both verticals can run on one wallet and back office. Ask whether trading and risk management are managed by the provider or by your team, and how the odds feed is priced.

Which markets and licences does OpenBet support?

OpenBet has not listed specific licences or supported markets in its profile. Ask for the licence numbers and verify them in each regulator's public register before contracting.

What are the best alternatives to OpenBet?

Based on deployment model, tier, verticals and budget, the closest alternatives to OpenBet in our directory are SOFTSWISS, EveryMatrix, BetConstruct and Kambi. Use the compare tool to view them side by side on setup cost, revenue share, launch time and ratings.

How do you rate OpenBet and is it reliable?

Our editorial rating for OpenBet is 9.0/10 (technology 9.0/10, support 9.0/10, pricing 6.0/10). It reflects published specifications, licence registers and operator feedback, not user reviews or paid placement. See our methodology page for how scores are built and what they do not cover.

Is OpenBet a betting site, and which sportsbooks run on OpenBet?

No. OpenBet is a B2B technology supplier; it does not take bets from the public and there is no OpenBet casino or OpenBet betting site. Operators publicly associated with its platform include Sky Bet, Ladbrokes and Paddy Power in the UK, FanDuel in the US, Danske Spil in Denmark, Veikkaus in Finland, BCLC and Loto-Quebec in Canada and BandBet in Brazil. Fanatics Sportsbook uses its Protect compliance tools rather than its betting platform.

Does OpenBet offer casino games or slots?

OpenBet does not publish its own slots or live-casino catalogue. Its products are a sportsbook platform, trading services, BetBuilder, the Protect suite (Locator and Neccton), lottery sportsbook technology and LEAP virtual sports. Operators that need casino content alongside an OpenBet sportsbook integrate a third-party aggregator; the former NYX OGS casino aggregator remained with Scientific Games (now Light and Wonder) when OpenBet was sold to Endeavor in 2022.

Who owns OpenBet now?

Since 24 March 2025 OpenBet has been owned by OB Global Holdings LLC, a management buyout vehicle backed by Ari Emanuel with participation from CEO Jordan Levin and other executives. The USD 450m deal from Endeavor included IMG Arena, which OB Global then sold to Sportradar in a transaction completed on 3 November 2025. Earlier owners were NDS/News Corp, Vitruvian Partners, NYX Gaming, Scientific Games and Endeavor.

What is OpenBet Protect, and can I use it on another sportsbook platform?

Protect is a standalone compliance suite combining OpenBet Locator (geolocation and fraud checks, live in 23 US states) and Neccton (machine-learning responsible-gaming and AML monitoring, acquired in June 2023 and deployed in 30+ countries). It is sold independently of the betting platform: Fanatics Sportsbook, which runs its own sportsbook stack, adopted the full suite in December 2025, and Four Winds Casinos and Veikkaus use Neccton.

How should an operator evaluate OpenBet reviews?

Consumer review pages about OpenBet usually describe betting sites built on its software, not the vendor. For a B2B assessment use primary evidence: the UKGC licence on its accreditation page, published event metrics (175 million bets during the 2026 World Cup), named multi-year contracts such as Veikkaus and Danske Spil, the ownership history and the September 2026 OmniLogic acquisition. Ask for reference calls with a lottery or operator of similar size in your jurisdiction.
